Every community meal program runs on more than just food. It runs on people who show up. This summer, that's exactly what Kelly and Bob have done for our Summer Weekend Meals for Kids program.
Nearly every week since the program started, Kelly and Bob have volunteered as our delivery drivers, loading up totes of food bags and driving them out to our partner sites so local kids have meals waiting for them over the weekend. Their consistency has made a real difference for the families who count on this program each week.
How did you get involved with EPP?
“We saw an EPP post on Facebook that listed volunteer needs. We have the time, so we reached out to someone with EPP and got set up to help with weekly food deliveries.”
What inspired you to become a volunteer driver?
“We have been familiar with the work that this nonprofit does and their goals. What they do and their goals are very worthwhile and meaningful for our community. Volunteering to deliver meals once a week is a very simple easy thing we can do.”
What do you enjoy most about making deliveries to our partner sites?
“When we drop off the meals, the recipients are all so very appreciative and thankful. We've been told how much they help or how the kids look forward to getting them each week.”
What does it mean to you to help ensure local kids have food during the weekends over summer break?
“It is important to do whatever we can to see that kids are not going hungry. The work that this organization does is making a difference. Delivering does not take much time and does not require much of us but means a great deal to those getting the meals.”
A huge thank you to Kelly and Bob for their dedication to Summer Weekend Meals for Kids this summer. Their reliability behind the wheel means one less thing local families have to worry about, and that's exactly the kind of neighbor-helping-neighbor spirit we're proud to celebrate.

About Our Summer Weekend Meals for Kids Program
School meals are often the most reliable source of nutrition for kids in Campbell County, and that support disappears when summer break starts. Our Summer Weekend Meals for Kids program fills that gap, providing more than 150 children with nutritious food bags each week throughout the summer. Volunteer drivers like Kelly and Bob make it possible by delivering those bags to our partner sites across the county.
